SKNV officially opened a sprawling manufacturing campus in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday afternoon with a grand opening ceremony that will be attended by Mayor Dean Trantalis.
The company, a maker of prescription skin care medications, said it will hire 100 people at the 37,500-square-foot facility.
“As we unveil this new campus, we’re advancing our mission to bring high-quality, customized dermatology medications directly to providers and patients alike,” said SKNV CEO Spencer Malkin.
The campus will enable the company to produce 15 times more product, making it possible to scale its business.
“We’re positioned to meet the rising demand for personalized medications,” Malkin added. As a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-registered 503B outsourcing facility, SKNV’s
campus will be regulated and inspected by the federal agency. That allows SKNV to manufacture medications in large batches without patient-specific prescriptions, provide in-office dispensing to dermatology providers, and help address drug shortages.
SKNV manufactures more than 120 topical medications for skin conditions such as acne,
melasma and rosacea. The company reports it is able to provide premium medications to
dermatology care providers at an accessible price point by eliminating intermediaries, including wholesalers, distributors and pharmacies.
In a statement, Mayor Trantalis said SKNV’s new campus establishes Fort Lauderdale as a rising location for dermatology businesses and manufacturing.
“SKNV’s commitment to job creation and dermatology advancement resonates deeply with our city’s values,” he said.
South Florida is an emerging hub for life sciences businesses, a sector that includes pharmaceutical, biotechnology, clinical research, and medical device ventures. According to a recent report, the Miami metro area has the seventh-largest number of life sciences establishments in the U.S., with about 3,500 companies in the area. However, the region came in at No. 31 overall in a ranking of U.S. hubs based on a wider analysis of its labor force, talent pool, educational institutions, and more.
